Literacy Activities at GISM – Fostering a Love for Reading
At GISM, we believe that reading is the foundation of lifelong learning, and we make every effort to cultivate a love for books from an early age. Our literacy activities are designed to engage students, encourage exploration, and enhance their communication skills, creating confident readers and thinkers.
The Role of Our School Library
The school library is the heart of our literacy program. It plays a vital role in the academic and personal development of every student, regardless of their grade level. Regular visits to the library allow students to explore a variety of books, discover new interests, and develop reading habits that support their overall
education.
Engaging Reading Activities
• KG Reading Activities: Our youngest learners are introduced to books in an interactive and fun way, helping them develop early literacy skills. Activities include storytelling, picture reading, and phonics exercises, which build foundational skills.
• Reading Across Genres: Students are encouraged to pick books from various genres, broadening their reading experiences and enhancing their comprehension skills.
• Verbal Presentation Sessions: These sessions give students the opportunity to showcase their flair for storytelling, improve their public speaking skills, and develop self-confidence in presenting ideas.
• Empowering Communication and Expression Through our literacy activities, students not only develop reading and writing skills but also learn to express their thoughts clearly, both in written and verbal form. These activities play a significant role in building critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication skills, which are essential for academic success and beyond.
At GISM, we strive to create a literacy-rich environment where students can
expand their horizons, nurture their imaginations, and become lifelong readers and
learners.

Christmas Thanksgiving Service – Spreading Joy and Compassion
At Gateway International School, we believe that the true spirit of Christmas lies in sharing, caring, and spreading joy. As part of our Community Outreach Program, we celebrate Christmas through a heartfelt Thanksgiving Service, where we come together as a community to make a difference in the lives of those in need. This special event is dedicated to spreading love and kindness during the holiday season. In collaboration with the Hope Public Charitable Trust, a home for mentally and physically challenged children and teenagers, our students, parents, and staff participate in various activities to bring cheer to the residents. The event is an expression of our commitment to compassion, empathy, and social responsibility. During the Christmas Thanksgiving Service, our students take the lead in organizing activities, making festive decorations, and spending time with the residents of the Trust. Parents also play a crucial role, contributing with donations, volunteering, and sharing their time with the residents, creating a meaningful bond between both communities. The true essence of the event is reflected in the smiles we share, the love we give, and the joy that fills the hearts of those who need it most. By participating in this act of kindness, our students learn valuable lessons in gratitude, empathy, and the importance of helping others. At GISM, we believe that through these acts of service, we not only celebrate Christmas but also cultivate responsible and compassionate citizens who are committed to making the world a better place.

Art Program at GISM – Nurturing Creativity and Expression
At Gateway International School, we believe that the arts are a powerful vehicle for personal growth, self-expression, and developing well-rounded individuals. Our Art Program offers students an opportunity to explore both visual and performing arts, fostering creativity, enhancing emotional expression, and building confidence in every child.
Visual Arts – Exploring the World through Creativity
The Visual Arts program at GISM invites students to explore the world around them through the lens of creativity. Whether through painting, printing, or sculpture, our students are encouraged to use art as a means of self-expression and personal discovery.
Painting
Painting is not just about creating a picture; it’s about using the senses, exploring color, and expressing emotion. Students engage in various painting techniques such as Coffee Painting, Glass Painting, and creative printing styles like Banian Printing, Thumb Printing, and Vegetable Printing, allowing them to experiment with textures, mediums, and artistic concepts. Each brushstroke encourages emotional release, helping students discover both the joy and challenge of the creative process.
Sculpture
GISM takes pride in offering exclusive sculpture classes, a unique addition to our curriculum, inspired by Mahabalipuram’s rich artistic heritage. Designed for students to explore creativity through hands-on sculpting, these classes nurture artistic expression, patience, and fine motor skills. GISM’s sculpture classes provide an unparalleled artistic experience, ensuring students develop a deep appreciation for craftsmanship while honing their creativity. These classes allow students to explore three-dimensional art and hone their skills in clay modeling, stone carving, and other sculptural techniques. Our sculpture classes help students engage with tactile, hands-on creativity, developing both their artistic expression and fine motor skills. This unique offering at GISM provides an invaluable opportunity for students to explore a form of art not commonly found in
other schools.

Performing Arts – Giving Life to Expression
In the Performing Arts program, students find new ways to express themselves beyond words. Music, dance, and drama provide an outlet for emotional and creative expression, developing confidence and broadening horizons.
Music Classes at GISM
At Gateway International School, we believe that music is not only a form of art but a powerful means of expression that helps students develop creativity, discipline, and emotional intelligence. Our Music Classes are designed to provide students with the opportunity to explore various musical genres, instruments, and techniques, cultivating a deep appreciation for the art of music while developing their talents.
Dance & Drama
From classical to contemporary dance, and from theatre arts to Zumba, students explore the rhythm of movement and the art of performance. Drama and dance not only spark creativity but also enhance cognitive development and provide an excellent physical workout. Stage performances give students the chance to conquer their stage fright and express themselves with confidence.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment of learning happens throughout the year and it is completely based on CBSE board guidelines. Every work of the student will be assessed continuously throughout.
We believe that the observation as well as documentation of the observation is the most important method of gaining assessment information about a child.
Observation is the primary assessment strategy used in kindergarten. Teachers focus their observation on specific skills, concepts or characteristics described in the learning expectations and record their observations on a regular basis.
For graders there are various ways of documenting observations such as using anecdotal records, checklist of rating scales, Project exploration and term wise pen and paper assessment.
