Indian & International Students

Gateway International School is an independent, inclusive, coeducational, day school. GIS offers online admissions for NRI and foreign students who seek to complete the admission procedure before they land in India.

The parents are requested to buy the application form online.

Admission process

The admission office and the Principal will review the application materials submitted.

The academic transfer certificate/ school leaving certificate, record and recommendation(s) from previous school are mandatory documents.

Applicants of grades 1 to 5 will have an informal assessment and personal interview while applicants of grades 6 to 12 will have a diagnostic test before admission.

The parents and student(s) will have an interview over a virtual meet platform if they are not in Chennai.

This will be followed by meeting the Principal at school who will school readiness, behavioral maturity, and motivation.

Eligibility: age requirement and grade placement

All initial placements will be made according to the guidelines given below. In cases where the student’s birth date is very close to the cut-off date and where parents feel that the student should be in a higher grade level, the student will be placed in the age-appropriate grade according to our admission policy.

Applicants who do not meet the age-appropriate eligibility but who have successfully completed a grade at another school will be considered for enrolment in the subsequent grade. Factors such as social, emotional, and physical development will also be considered when making the appropriate grade level placement.

Entrance Exam And Interview

Early Years applicants: K1, K2, and K3

There is no general entrance examination. After the initial review of application documents, qualified applicants may be invited to GIS for an assessment of readiness, depending on the review outcomes.

PYP applicants: grades 1 -5

Subject-specific informal assessment and personal interview is required for all applicants of grades 1 to 5.

MYP applicants: grades 6 – 10

There will be a written assessment on math and English.

The applicant is expected to meet the specific programme coordinator.

DP applicants: grades 11 -12

There will be a written assessment on math and English.

The applicant is expected to meet the specific programme coordinator.

Documents

Once the admission is confirmed, the following documents need to be attached with the
application form and given at the admission office.
- A copy of the previous year’s final report card, including teacher’s comments, and
a copy of the first semester report card for the current school year
- Original transfer certificate/Leaving certificate
- Copy of birth certificate
- 4 passport sized photographs
- Copy of Address proof (in India)
- Copy of Aadhaar Card
- Citizenship certificate, in case the child is not an Indian
- A copy of the FRRO, in case the child is not an Indian
- Copy of passport and visa, in case of NRIs
